MHP (Multimedia Home Platform)

MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) is developed by the DVB Alliance as a standard. DVB working as a project that began in 1997. DVB-MHP's work not only cover the application program interface API, but also the home digital network (IHDN) and the local cluster, which aims to standardize the family platform, which the successful application of interactive multimedia for the future is critical. It also can be seen as a pure broadcasting DVB interactive TV applications to the natural upgrade to promote the TV from analog TV to digital TV transition. Technical Features MHP set-top box middleware mainly defined the overall structure, transmission protocols, content formats, Java virtual machine and the DVB-J APIs, security, layers of detail, the application status and performance of the application automatically starts, etc., also defines the specific application signaling. Architecture MHP is defined as three layers: resource layer, the system software layer and application layer. A typical level of resources, including: MPEG processing, I / O devices, CPU, memory and graphics systems. System software layer to application layer provides an abstract visual platform, through the implementation of an application manager (also called the navigator) to manage the application on the MHP and MHP. Kernel MHP's core - the essence of the system is a middleware software, middleware and other difference is that, MHP middleware is not a proprietary middleware, which is an open, unified middleware. MHP standard only defines API interface, it does not give way to achieve the MHP, therefore, to achieve specific programs mainly by the MHP middleware and set-top box manufacturers are given. Many software packages provide the common platform API. MHP application simply by specifying the API access to these platforms. Low-level API with the specified resources and require a mapping between system software. MHP based on the DVB-J basis. DVB-J, including Sum Mircosystems's Java virtual machine.
